Webinar
Despite the current coronavirus situation, governments and industry are looking to the future and a green recovery. To maintain jobs and drive economies whilst achieving net zero targets we need to explore routes to decarbonising industrial production. For key sectors, such as cement and steel, one of the favoured routes to the deep emission reductions required is through carbon capture and storage (CCS). This webinar highlighted two projects that are already developing capture projects on cement and steel, respectively, and enabled webinar participants to engage with these projects and ask questions of the speakers.
Introduction and overview of capture technologies: Kristin Jordal, SINTEF Energy Research (10 min)
Norcem CO2 capture project: Per Brevik, Heidelberg Cement (15 min)
Tata Steel CO2 capture project: Carl van der Horst, Tata Steel (15 min)
Q&A session (20 min)
Our speakers:
Kristin Jordal, SINTEF

She has a PhD in thermal power engineering from Lund University in Sweden and has been with SINTEF since 2004. Sher has previously worked at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Siemens industrial turbines and Vattenfall. Kristin has long experience in research on CO2 capture from power generation and energy-intensive industries and has managed and coordinated EU FP6 and H2020 projects on CO2 capture from power and cement.
Per Brevik, Heidelberg Cement
Since 1993, Per Brevik has worked in alternative fuels development in the cement industry. Since 2007 he has been responsible for alternative fuels, climate and sustainability at HeidelbergCement Northern Europe as Director Sustainability and Alternative fuels.
