ECCSEL ERIC funding will give industry access to ‘new frontier’ facilities
ECCSELERATE is to launch two calls offering funding for access to ECCSEL ERIC’s world-class carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) research infrastructure.
The first call, to be launched in September, will be for researchers from industry, including collaborations with universities; the second, in February, will be open to both industry and research organisations.

SINTEF launches CO2 storage open data-sharing portal
SINTEF has launched a web-based digital portal for sharing reference datasets from pioneering CO2 storage projects.
The new portal, CO2 DataShare, was unveiled on 4 February and will enable researchers and engineers to improve their understanding, reduce costs and minimise uncertainties associated with CO2 storage.

European companies join Northern Lights on CCS cooperation
The Northern Lights project has brought seven European companies to the table to cooperate on developing value chains for carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.
The project, which forms part of Norway’s vision for delivering full-scale CCS, will provide transport infrastructure and permanent storage of CO2 in a reservoir in the northern part of the North Sea.

Energy companies launch vision for ‘world’s first’ zero carbon economy
A new campaign for the Humber region in the north of England has been launched to win government support for developing the UK’s first “net zero’ carbon cluster ahead of its 2040 target.
The campaign partnership, which includes CCUS Network members Drax and Equinor, aims to protect jobs within major industrial and manufacturing industries across the region by making the Humber the world’s first zero carbon economy and encouraging future global investment in the region.

Germany’s premier visits CarbFix project
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and various political and economic advisers to the Chancellor visited the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant in August as part of the annual meeting of the Nordic Prime Ministers in Iceland.
Brynhildur Davíðsdóttir, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Bjarni Bjarnason CEO welcomed the chancellor and then sat down for a chat over coffee and cakes.

The conference, held in the Netherlands, brought together key proponents of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies, including the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, the UK CCS Research Centre, TNO, Bellona and Equinor.
