A strong showing of new CCUS Projects Network members joined us in Brussels last month, along with representatives from the European Commission, for our first knowledge-sharing event. Those represented included full-chain CCS projects that will make use of North Sea CO2 storage opportunities, CO2 capture on gas-fired power plants and initiatives aimed at future-proofing Europe’s cement and steel industries. Our revitalised European CCUS Projects Network was launched in April after receiving fresh funding from the European Commission to support and inspire major carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects. The Network is managed by a Secretariat of international expertise and will provide member projects with opportunities for sharing knowledge and best practice. We will also provide advice to the Commission on delivering a viable CCUS network in Europe.
Our first webinar, held in May, provided an introduction to the Network’s aims and ambitions, described its value and benefits to potential members and provided details on how to join. Participants also had the opportunity for questions during a live Q&A session. Although aimed at new and potential project members, the webinar will be of interest to other groups, such as funders, policy makers and technology experts. A full webinar recording is now available.
The first of our "hot topic" briefings from Bellona Europa, one of our Secretariat members, describes the role of carbon capture and storage technologies in achieving the European Commission's ambition for net-zero carbon by 2050. Author Jan-Justus Andreas takes a look at policy needs, the opportunities offered by shared infrastructure and the part our Network will play in advancing CCS through knowledge sharing.
