European CCS Demonstration Project Network report: Compostilla: Second 2011 sharing event

The 2011 second CCS Network sharing event of the European CCS Demonstration Project Network was held in Ponferrada, Spain 8-9 June and hosted by CIUDEN (Fundación Ciudad de la Energía), a research organisation responsible for developing CCS technologies in Spain. CIUDEN is partnered with Endesa and Foster Wheeler in the Compostilla CCS project. More than 50 Network member representatives and invited guests gathered to share their experiences and to visit the CIUDEN Technology Development Centre for CO2 capture. The centre has a plant, recently started up, with a 20 MW pulverised coal (PC) boiler and a 30 MW circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler, both designed for operation from conventional (air) combustion to oxy-combustion. The meeting clearly demonstrated that the Network members have established a good environment for open sharing of information and experiences and that the Network is an arena for discussing and dealing with common challenges.

European CCS Demonstration Project Network report: Hamburg: Third 2011 sharing event

The Hamburg event was organised as a follow-up to the first and second knowledge-sharing events. It focused on further sharing in the themes of permitting, public engagement and risk management.

Knowledge sharing event in MVA/MMV in CCS: Demonstration projects and large scale CO2 injection tests: Workshop summary

This report provides an update on the event held in Alabama focusing on CO2 monitoring techniques. Overall there was a very large variety of projects presented, covering a variety of techniques from the US, Canada and Europe. These ranged in scale (from pilot to the commercial large scale injection of CO2), location (comparing onshore and offshore challenges), process (EOR monitoring as opposed to CCS), project maturity (from planning to ongoing injection), risks and opportunities (hundreds of wells to a small number), and focus (research as opposed to commercial).

European CCS Demonstration Project Network report: Brindisi: First 2011 sharing event

Hosted by Enel, lead partner in the Porto Tolle CCS Project, the Network’s first knowledge sharing event of 2011 took place in Brindisi, Italy. Over 50 delegates gathered for two days at the Federico II Power plant, home of Enel’s Pilot CO2 Capture plant. The event combined EU-US knowledge exchange activities with a site visit to the Pilot CO2 Capture Plant. In order to strengthen the Network’s international knowledge sharing activities, the European Commission had invited key representatives from the US to participate in an interactive knowledge sharing session, with observers from both ZEP as well as GCCSI.

European CCS Demonstration Project Network report: Bilthoven: First 2010 sharing event

The first meeting and knowledge-sharing event organised by the European CCS Project Network, Bilthoven, the Netherlands. This is the first time large-scale integrated CCS projects have met to share knowledge anywhere in the world and this is a landmark event in the European Commission’s aims to support and accelerate the demonstration of CCS technologies across the full value chain.

European CCS Demonstration Project Network Report: Brussels: Second 2010 sharing event

The second knowledge sharing event organised by the European CCS Demonstration Project Network brought together 30 representatives from 6 large-scale integrated CCS projects. The event was organised as a follow-up to the first meeting and knowledge-sharing event held in Bilthoven, the Netherlands on 28-29 April 2010. It focused on further sharing in the themes of permitting, public engagement and risk management.
